bullet  Marriage Notes:

[The following provided by John Salter:

I have evidence that George Henry Francis, born about 1899, married Elsie Kathleen Collier on 2 Aug 1926 at St. Cuthbert's Church, Hampstead, London (marriage certificate on hand.) George is described as of 67 ?Colum? Road, Cardiff, 27 years, bachelor, father: William James Francis.
I also have evidence that Elsie Kathleen Collier had a child, my father, in 1922. She had the child at a home for unmarried mothers in Monmouthshire, Wales. She is described in my father's birth certificate as Elsie Kathleen Collier, 18 Queen Street, Cardiff.
I have evidence that supports the fact that Elsie Kathleen Collier was the daughter of Frederick Collier (1858 - 1926) and Mary Brundrit (c1860 - 1936). I also find Elsie Kathleen on the 1901 and 1911 censuses - living with her parents.
I am working on a theory that Elsie and George were the parents of my father. I stress it is only a theory! They were living close enough in 1911-1922 for them to know each other - less than 1 mile (Comet Street to Queen Street, Cardiff.) IF her father disapproved (I have evidence that he was also the child of unmarried parents), then a scenario might be:
1922 - Elsie Kathleen gets pregnant and has a child
1922/1926 - Frederick Collier moves his family to Hampstead (she is described as living in Hampstead, London on her marriage certificate)
Apr 1926 - Frederick Collier dies (death certificate on hand)
Aug 1926 - Elsie Collier is now free to marry her former lover from Cardiff.
Note the proximity of the date of Frederick's death and the marriage to someone that she probably knew in Cardiff before she moved to Hamstead.]
